The next Painting With A Purpose is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Painting with a Twist, 4370 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township.
The event is for youths age 14 to 18 and proceeds will benefit the LGBT Center of Greater Reading.

The members of the Heidelberg Heritage Society are encouraging train and history buffs to take in the displays and view the restored Wernersville Train Station at an open house on Aug. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, 60 Vera Cruz Road near Reinholds, will hold its monthly Meet & Greet the Goldens on Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Staff will be on hand to answer all questions about the dogs and adoptions.

Veterans Making a Difference has the following programs scheduled:
Aug. 15, 10 a.m.: One hour concert by the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians Local 135 – 211 Reading in the Paul R. Gordon Veteran Social Center inside the Hope Rescue Mission at Sixth and Greenwich streets.
The concert is free for veterans, who provide proof of their service.

Aug. 24, 10 a.m.: Flag retirement ceremony at Zion’s Spies Evangelical Reformed Church, 318 Spies Church Road, Alsace Township.
Anyone with a Stars and Stripes that is unserviceable, torn or worn, bring it for proper retirement.
The ashes will be buried and then the church will provide refreshments.
