I swiped right because…
Julia: I swiped right because there was something about him that made me think I could talk to him. He sounded intelligent without being pretentious or stuffy. I also liked that he said he was tall. I’m 5’11” and my opening line (yes, I messaged him first) was, “How tall are you?” He’s also a babe, so that helped!
Scott: I swiped right because she looked gorgeous, and her profile made her sound fun.

We made it official…
Within a few weeks of meeting—we never had a “what are we” conversation. We both knew we wanted to keep moving forward and it happened very naturally. There were no games, we weren’t seeing other people, and though we were both on Tinder for a month or so after we started dating, we both deleted it together.
I knew I wanted to be together…
Julia: I knew I wanted to be together because I could be myself around him and he was himself around me. He was (and is) adventurous, but he was also just as happy to stay at home and relax. He was also reliable from the start—again, no games, no playing it cool—we were both very happy to hang out with and be with each other.
Scott: I knew I wanted to be together because she wanted to be relaxed around me from the start, and I knew I could be myself and not have to do anything stupid to impress her.

What was your attitude towards online dating when you were using apps?
Scott: I thought it was a bit dumb, as did she. We made fun of it together and bonded over that. Overall I guess it wasn’t a dumb app after all!
Julia: I had dabbled in online dating here and there with no luck. I had never given Tinder a real chance—I thought the idea of “swiping” was kind of dumb and felt impersonal, to be honest. That said, I decided I would give it a solid shot and see what was out there, and I did—and even better, it worked!
Any advice for other online daters?
Julia: Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want up front. If you’re looking for a relationship, then say that—even if you really like someone and are scared they’re not on the same page.
Scott: Keep looking, there are plenty of amazing people out there and it is only a matter of time before you find the one you want to be with forever.
