Dogfishing Is the New Dating Trend. But Is It a Big Deal? – menshealth.com

Image
Move aside breadcrumbing , there’s a new term that’s made its way into the dating vernacular: dogfishing. Dogfishing is when online daters pose with adorable pets—typically dogs—that aren’t theirs. The term was coined earlier this week in the The Washington Post , where the author writes: “Dogfishing is not exactly a lie—the person did take a photo with that dog—but to some daters, it feels like a veiled form of deception.” Now, I’m a sucker for a man with a dog. You give me a squishy-faced, slobbering machine and I’ll start screaming at the top of my lungs. Lord knows I’ve swiped right just because I saw a cute dog in an online dater’s photo. That’s why I undeniably agree with the author about the effectiveness of dogfishing. It works. Dogs are awesome. Most of the time I like them better than humans. But the moral duplicity with which she paints dogfishers is exaggerated. Perhaps my bar for honesty in a relationship is low, given the numerous times I’ve been ghosted , lovebombe...

Minneapolis world premiere plays off ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ views romcoms through a biracial lens – Minneapolis Star Tribune

Playwright Leah Nanako Winkler is not ashamed to say it. She wanted a “Hot Asian Doctor Husband.” “It was 2017, I think, and at the time I was going through a lot of complicated feelings regarding race and dating and I thought, ‘I really want to end up with a hot Asian doctor husband,” recalled Winkler. Her dark comedy of the same name, commissioned by Theater Mu, gets its world premiere Friday at Mixed Blood Theatre. That thought came from a couple of places: Her mother’s serious illness made Winkler reflect on her Japanese heritage. And a bunch of weddings revealed that if you want to know how segregated this country remains, go to weddings. “My family is extremely diverse. My sister is married to a black dude. My mom is Japanese. My dad is white. There are a lot of mixed-race people on both sides of the family, but interracial marriage just isn’t as common as we like to believe,” concluded Winkler, after celebrating with many un-diverse crowds. “When my mother started getting s...

Must love tutus: A guide to finding love (or at least a date) on the internet – AZCentral

Karina Bland Arizona Republic Published 11:30 AM EDT Aug 15, 2019 So many single people I know use online dating apps. It seems like a good way to meet people. We use the Internet for everything else: ordering pizza, booking vacations, paying bills.  I’d veer away from the more popular dating apps to ones for people over 50. That way, at 54, I’d be among the hot young things. First up, I’d need a profile, which sounded easy enough. “Must love tutus,” I began. Then I was stuck. So I turned to the Internet (of course). “Your profile should start out by describing your most prominent and positive character traits. Are you funny? Outgoing? Creative? Loyal? Affectionate? Intellectually curious?” Oh, sure. I’m all those things. READ MORE:  On how to break up, how NOT to pick up, and hanging in there Be interesting. Man Sues Dating Site for Using His Picture – AskMen

Married Cop’s Facebook Profile Picture Used for ‘Uniformed Singles’ Dating Site When police officer David Guzman (or Jason, as he was referred to in a recent dating site ad) was informed that his picture was making the rounds in a singles dating site ad, he was likely quite shocked, especially since he’s married. RELATED:   Best Online Dating Sites of 2019 According to NBC , Guzman’s profile picture — an image showing him in police blues, branded jacket and all — was allegedly scraped from his Facebook profile by NSI Holdings, the company behind Uniform Dating. Uniform Dating, for those unaware, is a dating site targeting either “uniformed singles” or those looking to hook up with a man or woman in uniform.  However, this is all David Guzman’s side of the story as laid out in his lawsuit against the singles dating service. It’s understandable that he would be very protective of his image as a law enforcement officer as well as in his capacity as a married man and a father. ...

What you’re doing wrong on your online dating profile – 9Honey

Dating apps seem to be the only way to meet people these days, and with the average single Australian spending up to 92 hours swiping each year, it’s easy to see why. But it looks like plenty of young singles are missing out on matches because their profiles are letting them down, according to new data from Bumble. From badly chosen photos to lacklustre bios, there are plenty of tiny mistakes that could be hold Aussie singles back from finding love. Your profile could be full of little mistakes that are stopping people from swiping. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) And given that more than half of singles will spend only 30 seconds on someone’s profile, you need to make an impression quickly. But when it comes to the photos you include in your dating profile there are a few clear don’ts. Avoid including pictures where you’re pouting or pulling the classic ‘duckface’, as nearly one in 10 people say it seriously turns them off a dating profile. And 10 per cent of Aussie women hate whe...

Swipeless in Seattle? ‘The microbrewery of dating apps’ aims to fix your love life – Crosscut

Image
I shake Ben Mussi’s hand and introduce myself, since we only briefly exchanged details of our meetup on Instagram. We find a spot to sit down, I grab my pen, and turn on my recorder. He offers to buy me a beer, but I decline. We both get our own drinks because this is not a date. I’m here to talk to Mussi about his dating life and why he decided to create The Seattle Dating App (due to launch in September). He is quick to disclose that in the 15 years he’s lived in Seattle he’s spent as much time single as he has in relationships. Wanting to start his own business, as any aerospace engineer would, he grabbed a white board last winter and laid out all his activities to identify his passion. A little embarrassed, Mussi realized he spent a lot of time swiping on dating apps. His project was born. A lot has been said of dating apps and Seattle’s dating scene over the years. Generally, what locals blame on the Seattle Freeze is more or less what society blames on dating apps : a sc...

Connect, chat, date. Online dating has become the dominant form for many seeking a romantic relationship. It’s the third most popular way of meeting a long-term partner, according to a recent study. (Photo courtesy of Rawpixel.com) It’s always been hard for me to manage work/life balance – especially when it comes to dating. I don’t encourage dating clients or media we work with because it can really muddy the waters. Recently, a friend suggested I try the dating app Hinge. I realized I had nothing to lose and jumped in, not really caring about the outcome. Going into it with the promise of meeting some cool people and no fear of rejection has made it a lot more fun to put myself out there and date. Cross your fingers, Mr. Right might be a swipe away. – Tara Murphy , 360 Media, Inc.

Over 5 pct of Vietnamese children have trafficking-related experiences: report – VnExpress International

Image
“Casting Light in the Shadows: Child and youth migration, exploitation and trafficking in Vietnam,” released on Tuesday at a conference in Hanoi, said they were either trafficking victims or exposed to trafficking risks. Vietnamese girls and boys are equally at risk of trafficking, while less than one in 10 victims of trafficking or labor exploitation received any form of support. The report, surveyed 3,885 people aged 12 to 24 in 36 Vietnam localities from 2017. “This study provides important evidence of the prevalence of child trafficking and the experiences of exploited or trafficked children,” Lesley Miller, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Vietnam, said. “It also reveals that both boys and girls are impacted, reinforcing the need for gender-responsive prevention and responses.” Kara Apland, senior researcher at research institute Coram International, said: “The majority of trafficking survivors never access support services. Furthermore, services were found to be focus...
